My Pacman frog ate goldfish. Are feeder fish safe for frogs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Amphibian | Toad | Female | unspayed | 3 lbs

So I was thinking of something other than crickets, worms, etc for my Pacman frog. Last question I sent was about the fish to give her. I bought live comet goldfish and put it in her water dish (changed the water after she ate), and she ate all 5 that I put in there. I did ask the young lady at PetSmart if these particular goldfish were considered "feeders," in which she told me yes. Are gold fish okay to give to a pacman frog? Attached a picture, but may not be very clear.

Feeder fish can be added to the diet, however you must consider the source. Typically these fish are kept in a tank with hundreds of other fish. This predisposes them to infection and parasites which could be transmitted to your frog. As an occasional treat, they are fine. Stick with responsibly raised insects and nightcrawlers. Another treat to be given occasionally would be a pinkie (baby mouse).
