My rabbit is peeing red. Is it blood, diet, or a health issue?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Farm Animal | Unknown | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 6 days old | 1lb

Clyde is 14 weeks old and he is peeing almost a blood color. He gets regular pellets and he love wild purple clover from the field. I do have a mineral block and small salt block in the pen. The other bunnies are doing fine.

Rabbits can have normal urine of various colour from red-orange-yellow depending on diet (pigments from food). A sample can be checked by your vet to rule out actual blood from a UTI especially if there is any weight loss/poor appetite/increased frequency of urination

Coloured urine from brown-orange-red-yellow is common in rabbits and is related to the idet they are eating. As ong as her thirst, appetite and behavior is normal and there are no solid clots I would recommend you continue to monitor for any additional signs

Some foods can stain the urine to an orange/red color, it is probably the cause, especially if you have not seen any other changes in her behavior. The staining is not dangerous, it's normal in Rabbits.
