My dog isn't responding, has warm red ears. Is she deaf from an ear infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | 3 years and 3 months old | 52 lbs

My dog is not correctly responding when we call her.She is having her food and water normally, but doesn't respond to the instructions immediately. Her ears are warm and red. Is this because of any ear infection? Has she turned deaf because of it? Is this deafness temporary or permanent? Can this deafness be cured? Please help. Thanks in advance.

Hello. Has any medications been placed in the ears? This is the primary reason for deafness in pets. Only your veterinarian can determine if there is an ear infection or something else going on with Angel. Even though she is eating & drinking normally, she may just be a little unwell. If you can have her examined, you vet will look deep into the ears to make sure the ear drum is intact & there are no obvious signs of infection or inflammation. I hope all is well with Angel soon & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
