My dog has prostate cysts making it hard to pee. Can they be removed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dog was found to have cysts in his prostate making it difficult to pee and defacate. The cells they pulled were abnormal but the vet disagrees with it possibly being cancer. They want another ultrasound and urinalysis to test for cancer. Can they remove the cysts?

Hi there. It's possible that the cysts can be surgically treated, depending on their size and specific location. This would be a question for the veterinarian who is currently treating him. If he/she isn't sure, I would request referral to a specialist for further work-up and discussion of possible treatment options.
