My dog licked my nose. Can I get rabies after an unknown bite?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkipoo | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

My dog was bitten by an unknown animal. One day later While she was at the vet I went and saw her and she was licking my tears away and licked inside my nose for a second. She was last vaccinated from rabies in 2016. If she happens to have rabies, would I be able to contract it from her licking the inside of my nose?

No. You can only contract rabies if she is actively shedding the virus (showing symptoms). Do not worry about this at all. Just be sure to keep her rabies vaccination up to date. Depending on where you live it is either once a year or every 3 years. Check your local ordinance.
