My new kitten's spay stitches look raw. Is this normal healing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 lbs

I just got my kitten from the shelter and checked her stitches. This morning and I'm worried that this isnt normal.. I've never had a female kitten. Everyone tells me it's fine they take time to heal. Does this look like I need to take her to a clinic!? She doesnt act hurt and nothing when I touch it. But I'm worried

It looks ok. I just suggest you apply a thin layer of Neosprin to it twice a day because it’s a bit raw. I wouldn’t be worried unless it gets very swollen or is open and oozing. Please feel free to ask more questions if you need to. Best wishes!

Hello. The incision does look a little moist, but it is difficult to say if it is infected. Since you are going for a recheck tomorrow, I would just use a little warm water to gently dab off some of the serum & leave things alone until she is looked at tomorrow. I think it will be fine until then. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
