My dog is licking a swollen spot. Is it an urgent vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 73 lbs

Wondering what is wrong with my dog. Is this urgent and do I need to go to the vet ASAP? He licks it sometimes but it doesn’t not seem like a big concern for him.

This is probably an allergic reaction due to an insect bite or a plant outside. those reactions tend to resolve within 48 hours without treatment. if the swelling becomes too large or if your dog is lethargic, take him to the vet in order to get an antihistamine injection.
