My cat is always scared and skittish. What can I do to help her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years and 5 months old

Yin is a sweet and loving cat. Shes never been harmed, mistreated or anything of the sort but is skittish over almost everything. Walk in the kitchen when shes eating, she runs frantically. Walk up gently to pet her shes fine. Scared of toys, scared when walking around etc. Her tails shakes a lot randomly too. The other cats wont play with her, she doesnt seem to know how to play. She doesnt slow blink and stares. I've tried everything and nothing really makes it better. Is this normal?

Some cats can just be naturally skittish, however making sure Yin has a place she can relax and settle in may help her feel more comfortable. A high perch she can view people from may make her want to interact a bit more, as well as making sure she has her own access to food, litter, water, etc without the other cats interfering. Pheromone diffusers such as Comfort Zone can also help nervous or stressed cats relax as well. Giving her time and letting her approach you for a treat or pets may also make her more comfortable over time.
