What are these red marks on my dog's belly after anesthesia?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 9 years and 5 months old | 18 lbs

Moose has these strange markings on his belly. They don't seem to bother him and he's acting perfectly normal. Around his nipple is a little red, but the markings aren't and they feel just like the rest of his skin. He recently went to the vet for some dental work so he was put under anesthesia and they also gave him a rabies vaccination. Could that have anything to do with it? He's also been peeing on some unknown leaves lately, maybe he's allergic to them? Please help, thank you.

This should not have anything to do with the rabies vaccination. However, he could have some mild burns from the warmer the vet uses to keep their body temperature up while they are under anesthesia. I cannot tell from the photos. It looks mild which is good. I suggest you use this wound spray for the next 5-7 days; spray 3-4 times daily. If not looking better in that amount of time you should get him back to your vet for a follow-up. ( https://www.allivet.com/p-2860-vetericyn-plus-antimicrobial-hydrogel-spray.aspx ) Hope this helps. Best wishes.
