What causes cat tremors and twitching after dewormer and flea meds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 7 lbs

Our cat, Butters is usually a very shy, timid cat. We have become aware he has some form of worms so we purchased a cat deworming medicine for him. We gave him some yesterday and gave him the prescribed amount on the bottle. We also put a flea medication on his pelt the other day aswell. Today i woke up and hes having these awkward tremors and twitching unvoluntarily. I wrapped him up in a blanket because i thought he was cold but im starting to beleive it could be something else entirely.

I recommend to have Butters examined quickly by the veterinarian. Bring in the flea medication and the deworming medication. It is possible he is having a reaction to the medication which needs to be addressed quickly. Also scan the house for any medication, drugs or other toxins that Butters could have gotten into. There are also possible metabolic and infectious causes as well but you can't know without an exam and likely bloodwork. Best of luck and I hope he recovers quickly.
