My cat is thin after nursing kittens. How much should I feed her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 9.5 lbs

Apparently the last question I sent the bottom part of the message where I asked the question got cut off. My cat Domino had 5 kittens, they are doing great, 8 weeks old tomorrow. They aren't really nursing anymore. When Domino was nursing, she ate alot. Even so, she's looking rather thin. She still has an appetite, still drinks water, etc. Now that she isn't nursing anymore, what is the appropriate amount to feed her? Also, she's had some diarrhea here and there, should I be concerned?

I would recommend separating/weaning the kittens. If Domino is thin, she can be on a kitten food for another month to help with weight gain, or you can give her free-choice if adult cat food. Occasional diarrhea may be associated with her diet, but if you are noticing it for more than a week, I would have her examined by a vet to determine what could be the cause.
