My dog has a red, raw lip wound. Is it serious if she's acting normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chow Chow | Female | spayed | 52 lbs

My dog has a graze/wound on her bottom lip, it appeared suddenly, she was on the lead the whole time but could’ve stuck her face in somewhere. It’s red and raw but not bleeding. She is behaving as her normal self. Could it be serious ?

Hi, I would recommend to have it checked over. Sutro could benefit from some pain relief and some medications to reduce the swelling. It should not be anything life threatening but obviously the sooner the better in terms of making her comfortable. Hope this helps and thank you fr using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
