Why is my cat snorting and coughing with no nasal discharge?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 11 months old

I have a cat that is almost two years old. Nothing is draining from his nose or eyes but he sounds like he has nasal infection that is draining down the throat. He will snort like people do when trying to pull the infection up into nose instead of blowing it out. Them he coughs some on it. He doesn't do it nonstop and otherwise he feels fine and is eating. I was wondering if there is anything I can do at home or would he need medicine for the infection?

I would recommend having Buster examined by a vet. These symptoms can be cause by an upper respiratory infection or a nasopharyngeal polyp. A polyp would need to be surgically removed to fix the symptoms and prevent it from getting bigger and occluding the airways.
