My cat is drooling blood, face swollen, not eating. Was it a fight?

My 18 yr old male cat, neutered, is an indoor/outdoor cat. He was out for a few hours yesterday and when he came in, he was drooling mixed with blood. His face is swollen and he won't eat or drink. I picked him up to wipe his mouth and he made a distress meow. He's been sitting in the bathroom all night. He won't purr or even look at me. I saw his white fur in the grass by our steps, like he might've been in a fight out there. He hasn't eaten today yet. What could it be?

Poor Papacino! I would agree, it sounds like he may have been in a fight with another animal. Since he appears to have a wound of some kind in his face and is acting painful, I would recommend taking him to the vet today for an exam. He will likely need antibiotics and pain medication to treat the wound and make him more comfortable as it heals.
