Why does my new puppy have bloody, mucus-y poop but seems fine?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 10 days old | 10 lbs

Hey - we just picked up our Mini Goldendoodle on Saturday. Yesterday (Sunday) about midway through the day her feces started getting more mucus-y and sometimes would have a little bit of blood. She probably went about 10 times in the afternoon and evening, alternating between more solid and more mucus-y feces. This morning she went twice outside and they also varied in consistency, with some mucus. Pictures attached. Behavior wise, she’s peppy and doesn’t seem to be in any pain.

This could be due to parasites, a bacterial or viral infection, even the stress of the change in environment can cause diarrhea. The blood is concerning, so I suggest getting her in to see your vet for a new puppy visit and wellness check as soon as possible and getting the feces analyzed for parasites or infection. If the breeder started the vaccinations and deworming themselves this is less of a concern, but worrying nonetheless.
