My dog drinks more water after eating wet food. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 10 months old | 13 lbs

I have noticed Tiny drinking more water than what he normally drinks. It started yesterday, when I started putting water (I drained it out, before giving it to him) in his dog food. Today, I also gave him wet dog food. So this drinking behavior only started yesterday. Should I stop giving him wet food? Do you think he probably think the water is his food?

It could be Tiny is thirstier than usual and that could be due to heat if it's warm where you are, or a medical illness. I would have him checked out by a vet this week to be safe. You can keep giving him the wet food.
