My newborn ferret kit is weak and not feeding. How can I help it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Do you specify in ferrets? Because I know that not all vets do and my question is ferret related. My ferret gave birth about 1 week ago and she's having 10 babies but most important. There is one weak baby the smallest that she keeps on putting to the side. She's fine when it crawls on its own to get some milk but it doesn't always have a chance to do it and it's not being feed property like the rest. Can I help her feed it somehow? Like kitten milk or something. I knowI can at 3wks but he's 1

Thanks for reaching out about your kit. If you believe she is malnourished, you do need to assist feed, and a kitten replacer would be the best choice. There is a possibility that when you handle her, mother might reject her, and possible injure her, so keep a close watch. There is also a possibility the baby is ill, and mother knows this, and not expending lots of energy to nurse her. Good luck.
