Pet's info: Fish | Betta | Female | 9 months and 14 days old | 0 lbs
I'm 11 years old, and last August I got a female beta fish that was inside a little cup on a Petco end cap. From the start she had one fin that was shorter than the other. I called it her "lucky fin" Today I noticed that her fin was giving her trouble (for the first time ever) and she was having a hard time staying away from the surface of the tank. She even swam lopsided a few times. Is there absolutely anything I can do? I feel so bad. What if she can't swim anymore?

Thanks for reaching out about Aspen and including photos. This in not likely a problem with the fin, but a swim bladder disorder, therefore floating at the surface. Test and correct water quality for pH, ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. Swim bladder disorders are often associated with secondary infections, abdominal masses or other problems. Only a veterinarian can assist with a diagnostic/treatment plan, so scheduling a visit is recommended. Good luck.
