My cat is lethargic and won't eat. Is Royal Canin Urinary SO the problem?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year old

My 1 yr. old male cat is suddenly lethargic and won't eat for the last 20 hrs. ( he did drink a little water). We live in a small town, our vet is closed for the weekend and the emergency vet is an hour and a half away. Our older cat was given Royal Canin Urinary SO for the last week, and we fed this to the younger cat too. Could this be the problem? Driving 1 1/2 hours would be traumatic for the cat, but we are willing to go. He goes out in an enclosed yard.

The Royal Canin SO food should not cause lethargy and should be safe to feed to a healthy cat. Lethargy is a somewhat vague sign - it’s possible that this is simply behavioral and not emergent but Otis could also have a fever, he may have ingested something, or it could be any number of other problems. Ultimately you know him best and you should go with your gut - if you’re worried his lethargy seems extreme or if he begins to show other signs like trouble breathing or vomiting I’d recommend making the drive to the vet.
