Why is my cat vomiting, panting, and acting strange with diarrhea?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 12 lbs

My cat Taser a white large long hair cat displayed some behaviour today that was scary because I haven’t seen him do this before. He vomited his kibble then had two small liquid stool bowel movements. He then started meowing loudly while running to different rooms 1 room after the other. His pupils were large and he was panting. He did this for about 1/2 hour then settled. He was also dragging his bum across the floor. He has been settled now for and seems to be back to his normal behaviou

Thank you for contact Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Taser. Poor guy! It definitely sounds like he is sick, and I'm concerned about the vomiting, diarrhea, but most especially the panting. If he's back to normal for now, keep a close eye him. Should he start panting again, take him into an ER vet because panting is a sign of respiratory distress in cats. I can also give you home remedy for the vomiting. I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, has diarrhea on the bland diet, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.
