My cat has an ear infection. Is Surolan safe with a ruptured eardrum?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 8 years and 8 months old

Hi,my cat has ear infection, our vet prescribed him Surolan but they don't want to look in his ear and make tests, they say if he's walk normally it's only external,he lost his appetite and has the place under his ear irritated and slightly swollen, has discharge that has odour, mostly brown but sometimes white mucus with little red, I'm worried if that means that the eardrum is ruptured and if it is,is it safe to use Surolan or other topical eardrops,is it safe to use silver water drops in his ear

I would take Melcho back into a vet now. I would also be concerned about the integrity of the ear drum, and do not recommend using the medication until it's confirmed the ear drum is intact. Do NOT use silver water drops in his ear, it is not safe at all.
