Is it safe to reintroduce my pet mouse after wild mouse contact?

Updated On December 4th, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Mouse | Female | unspayed

I have two pet mice. One escaped so we set out humane traps and finally caught her about 2 weeks after she escaped. The dilemma is that right before we caught her, we caught a wild mouse and it seems they were friendly with each other. Should I reintroduce my pet mouse back into the cage with her original cage mate (who is also female)? I am concerned of what to do with her because of her contact with the wild house mouse (e.g. possible new behavior, disease, pregnancy...).

Thanks for reaching out about Opal. It is recommended to keep her separated for several weeks to monitor for any parasite or disease transmission. A fecal examination at a veterinary clinic would be recommended to check for intestinal parasites. Good luck.
