Cat has a hanging tooth but eats and drinks. Is it an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 13 lbs

My cat has a hanging tooth. She's 4 years old. She's still eating and drinking and going to the bathroom. It's just sitting there.

If Licorice is still eating and drinking, it is not an emergency to have the tooth extracted. However, the area from where it is dangling may be more likely to cause pain and it may be opening up a pipeline for infection into the underlying gumline. You may want to have the area assessed by your vet and potentially have the tooth pulled. If it is truly dangling by a thread, your vet may just pull it without anesthesia. Hope this makes sense.
