Depending upon the extent of exposure, hospitalization with IV medical therapy will be required to save Pedro's life. Lead poisoning can cause very serious gastrointestinal and neurological damage if it goes untreated. Medications aimed at counteracting the lead as well as controlling the symptoms will be utilized. Commonly used drugs include Calcium-EDTA, pencillamine, and thiamine. Various cathartics may also be indicated depending upon when and how frequent the exposure has been. Hope this makes sense. Most important thing is not to wait and to get to the ER as soon as possible. Also you may want to establish an open case with the pet poison control hotline.
