My dog's licking leg, yellow discharge. Infection before trip?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 75 lbs

My dog recently began licking/chewing one area on his back leg. I have read about common reasons and mostly am trying to make sure it’s not an infection as we go on a road trip tomorrow. I just wiped it up and it doesn’t appear to be painful however the moisture appeared slightly yellow on the paper towel.

I suspect the area is beginning to get an infection if it is moist and has a yellowish exudate. I recommend to call the veterinarian today. They may allow you to come in for an exam or pick up a medicated wipe or shampoo which may help. Make sure Oso does not have fleas which commonly causes chewing in that area. Pets can get random infections but fleas and allergies are common causes. I hope this helps.
