My Maltese won't walk. Could it be age, joint pain, or illness?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | unspayed | 6 years old | 4 lbs

Hello, my Maltese would stop on our walks and refuse to move. What could be wrong with her? Could it be aching muscles and joints due to her age or some other factors such as diseases? I'm tempted to call our veterinarian and perform a blood test or something, I'm worried about her.

Awww, Bella is so cute! I'm with you, I think an exam and some blood testing with your vet is worth it. You know her best so if you are worried it is better to be safe than sorry. Unfortunately, her symptoms are very non-specific so I can't venture much of a guess as to what may be going on. She is a bit young to have orthopedic issues but it is possible. Best to have her checked out. Hope she is back to feeling better soon. Best wishes.
