My senior cat has hind leg weakness on Norvasc. Is it a side effect?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 13 years and 4 months old

My 14 year old cat has bern diagnosed with primary hypertension due to all blood tests returning normal. She is on Norvasc but has develooed muscle weakness in her hind limbs. Is this a side effect of Norvasc? The muscle weakness in hind legs came on suddenly asd she has been on Norvasc for 3 weeks.

No that is not a side effect I would expect. I would be more concerned about her having a blood clot in the artery leading to the leg with that history. High blood pressure can predispose cats to throwing blood clots. I would recommend getting her to a vet for evaluation ASAP.
