Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | neutered | 5 months and 1 day old | 50 lbs
My 5 month old German Shepherd suddenly started getting anal gland problems. His stool is really soft I don’t think it’s hard enough to release the anal fluids. It’s really stinky and it leaks at random times. My boyfriend has to express him like maybe twice a week. Any help would be nice. Thank you. -Taylor

Assuming the stool has returned to normal, chronic anal gland issues can be related to allergies or a mechanical problem. To rule out allergies I recommend to discuss starting Sergeant on a hydrolyzed protein diet. This is the best diet to figure out if allergies to food are significant. If this appears to be more of a mechanical problem, there is a supplement called Glandex that many pets respond well to. If his stool is not normal I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian as this could be the reason for the anal gland issues. Best of luck.
