Why isn't my EPI dog gaining weight? Does she need B12 injections?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 12 years and 5 months old | 12.78 lbs

My dog is a Spitz mix. She developed EPI when she was 4 years old. Before she had this condition, she weight was 7kg. But now she weighs only 5.8kg. She does take LYPEX with every meal. I would like to why she doesn't put on weight. It it compulsory to give B12 injections for dogs with EPI?

Not all dogs with EPI require B12 inj or supplementation but I would recommend it for any dog which is not maintaining their weight despite treatment. I also recommend feeding a highly digestible, hydrolysed diet such as royal canin hypoallergenic in these patients as it requires much less digestion by the pancreas than other diets and can compensate for reduced function
