Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 3 lbs
Hi I think my cat has hyperthyroidism. I've taken him to the vet 3 times already because of his rapid wieght loss. each time his levels of T4 was high. They told me it's probably because of gastro problems. He drinks a ton of water, pees in the house, vomits at least 2 to 3 times a week and he is a short hair cat and gets knots in his fur. I can't think of the last time I've seen him groom himself. I can't stand to see him look so thin. He's 11 and my best friend. I don't know what to do.

Consider having him seen by a different veterinarian. Request a comprehensive thyroid panel which should include a T4, T3, free T4 by equilibrium dialysis and TSH. All these, taken together, should be able to diagnose or rule out hyperthyroidism. Left untreated, he could develop other problems, so do not delay.
