My dog has a hard, raised bump on her leg and is licking it. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year old | 38 lbs

Our pup has a hard, raised bump on her leg and we aren’t sure what caused it or how to treat it. We take her to off leash at the park frequently and she plays pretty hard. We think this may be an injury from that. It hasn’t changed in size in the last week since we noticed it. She’s been licking it, so it’s a bit more irritated now. She will let us touch it. Should we take her to the vet or is this something we can treat at home? Thanks!

I definitely think this is something that should be seen by a vet, especially since Penny is licking at it. It means it's bothering her. I would take her into a vet today or tomorrow. Best of luck.

Poor Roxy! This could be a cyst, it could be a skin infection, or it could be from allergies. Because she keeps licking and biting it, that tells me it's bothering her, so yes she should see the vet. I would take her to the vet this week. I hope this helps!
