My dog's paw pads are peeling and she's limping. Will they grow back?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 7 months old | 20 lbs

My dogs paw pads are peeling. We feel this is why she has been limping for a day or so. She gets very hyper and loves to run around so it was probably from the rocks or the hyper activity that scrapped and peeling her paws. Is there anyway for them to grow back

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Yes, the skin on the paw pads grows quickly, so any minor tears or scrapes should heal in without complication, as long as they are not too deep! If the scrapes are deep enough to result in bleeding, Matilda should be seen by a veterinarian. Otherwise, they should heal on their own. I hope this is helpful!
