My dog has few teeth. Can I skip cleaning for 2 weeks on vacation?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi, my dog recently had many tooth extractions and only has 9 teeth left. I will be going on vacation for 2 weeks next wednesday and will be leaving him with a friend. Would it be okay for his remaining teeth to not be cleaned for the 2 weeks I will be gone since he refuses to let anyone except me handle his mouth and teeth? Of course I will be back to cleaning them straight away when I get back, thanks

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Yes, it will definitely be OK that his teeth aren't cleaned for 2 weeks. There should not be a significant amount of tartar or plaque build up in this time, so if you return to cleaning them when you get back, he should be just fine! It is awesome that you are able to take such great care of your pet's teeth! I hope this is helpful!
