Why is my rat peeing on himself? Is it territorial or a problem?

Updated On December 4th, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rat | Male | unneutered | 11 months and 26 days old

My rat seems to suddenly be peeing himself. Should I be concerned about this or is he just being lazy?

I suspect this is normal. Rats are naturally territorial animals and even if housed alone, they will mark their territory. Some will form of trails of urine and dribble everywhere. I cannot be sure if this is what is going on or not just by looking at a photo. If you are worried, you should take him to a vet for an exam. To prevent him from getting an infection from the urine on his body I suggest you wipe him daily with these wipes: ( https://www.allivet.com/p-5339-aoe-animal-odor-eliminator-pet-wipes-80.aspx )
