My rescue dog whines, paws, and chews. Is it medical or behavioral?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 5 months old | 70 lbs

My rescue dog is starting to whine and paw us constantly, but all her needs (potty, food, water) have been taken care of. She also started "nibbling " on blankets, clothing, her inner thighs,...what does this mean?

Any drastic change in behavior should warrant and exam with your veterinarian. Often times this is the first sign of an underlying medical problem. If not medical issue is found, then you can assume it is behavioral and consult with a professional dog trainer in your area to help you modify the behavior.
