My dog gets ticks on Simparica. What's best for high-risk areas?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 7 months and 10 days old | 50 lbs

I have 2 dogs and recently acquired a vacation home in the Berkshire mountains. The first 2 days and i found about 15 ticks on them. That is without taking them into the woods, only on walks on the street letting them go 2 feet from the pavement. They wre currently on simparica. Is there something more effective to give them in addition to or instead of that. Especially in a high tick area. Thank you

The active ingredient in Simparica is sarolaner. At this time, there are no known drug interactions reported with sarolaner. I would therefore use a spot on treatment for fleas and ticks like Frontline or K9 Advantix II. I hope this helps!
