Why is my dog shaking her head, stumbling, and acting stiff?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 10 lbs

What’s happening? Her Head is shaking back and forth, she can stand up but when she tries to walk she falls to the side or stumbles a little. she was stiff in my arms when I picked her up until I got her in bed and she relaxed and started to fall asleep. But she’s seeming better now, but still off.

I'm sorry Luna doesn't feel good! It could be a neurological issue causing the head shaking and trouble walking. I do think she needs to see a vet for this problem, and I would take her into one first thing in the morning. Best of luck.
