My guinea pig baby is weak and not eating. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Guinea Pig | Female | unspayed | 8 months and 11 days old | 1.543 lbs

Hi. two days ago, my guinea pig gave birth to 5 pups. 2 of them died, while the youngest one is weak. The mother couldn't cleanup the baby so i picked her up and cleaned her. Since then, the mother does not seem to focus on her weakest pup. If i pick the mom and somehow attach the baby to the mother's nipple, the baby still wouldn't drink. The pup is not eating any veggies or hay. So i forcefully fed her some cow milk diluted with water as not eating anything was worse. What else can i do? Help!

You will need to raise this one as an orphan. I suggest you refer to this article for information. If you have more questions after reading this please feel free to post again. Best wishes. ( https://www.petplace.com/article/small-mammals/general/caring-for-orphaned-guinea-pigs/ )
