My dog is a healthy weight. Should I increase their daily food intake?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Male | neutered | 5 months and 19 days old | 28 lbs

I give Mia and Asher both one and a half cups of dry food a day which is 651 calories for each. Then I give them one can of wet food a day even though the can says to give them 2 1/2 cans a day, one can of wet food has 194 calories. So in total they get close to 845 calories a day yet they burn on average 500-1200 calories a day. I am worried I’m under feeding them even though they are at a good weight. Should I feed them more?

No. If the dogs are at a good weight and body condition score, you are feeding them the appropriate amount of calories. When pets become overweight or underweight, that is a sign that something needs to change. Please feel free to post any additional questions.
