My 6-year-old beagle has a painful bump. What's wrong and what to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Female | unspayed | 6 years and 2 months old | 12 lbs

My 6 year old beagle has had a small "pimple like" bump under the fur on her back for a while. It hasn't caused her any pain or any hair loss. But, today she was acting like she was in pain and we found a similar "bump" by her front leg. I'm not sure what it is or how to take care of it and make sure Roxie isn't in pain.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Roxie. It is difficult to say without seeing a picture, but most small skin masses are not painful to dogs. I would be more concerned about an orthopedic problem causing the pain. She will need to be examined by a veterinarian to know for sure. In the meantime, keep her quiet to allow her body to rest. Do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to dogs. I hope this information helps!
