My puppy's paw is swollen, shaking, and he's stumbling. Vet now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund miniature | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 3 days old | 5 lbs

I was giving my dachshund puppy a bath and he started climbing out, I think he hurt his paw because he cried for a second then seemed fine. Later after his bath his paw looked limp and overextended, but he could move it and he’s walking fine.. other than stumbling a bit. It seemed to get better because he’s running but then it started shaking and he’s looking at it. It’s pretty swollen now too, should I take him to the animal hospital tonight or tomorrow? Or will this heal on its own?

Oh no, poor Teddy. I'm concerning that his paw is pretty swollen, he's shaking, and stumbling. Given these symptoms and his young age, I would take him into the animal hospital tonight to be safe. Best of luck.
