Why is my juvenile red tail boa constrictor not eating or spitting up?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Reptile | Boa Constrictor | Female | 4 months and 24 days old

Hello. I have a juvenile red tail boa constrictor. I fed her a small rat a week ago and she spit it back up a few days later. I tried to feed her again yesterday but she’s refusing it. It’s not like her to not eat. I’ve been treating her for mites because the place I bought her from sold her to me with them but she still ate last time after treating her. I’m really worried because she’s losing weight and has some loose skin. HELP!

Thanks for reaching out about Salem and including a photo. Intestinal infections or parasites, gastrointestinal obstructions, metabolic disorders or toxicities can all cause regurgitation. Could the mite medication be causing problems? A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Check and correct husbandry. Good luck.
