Why is my dog limping on her good leg months after CCL surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 7 months old | 65 lbs

My dog has pain with hip extension. And doesn’t want to put full weight on her toes. She was running around for the first time since her CCL surgery. Which was 6 months ago. Her good leg is the one that hurts

If her pain is truly localized to the hip it could be from a joint injury or arthritis. It’s also possible that the pain is originating from the knee - unfortunately many dogs that experience a cruciate rupture will have the other leg rupture within 6-12 months. If the lameness continues I’d recommend having Dallas examined by your vet.
