My dog eats roaches. How to avoid poisoning during pest control?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pekingese | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 3 months old | 10 lbs

My name is Richard and I have a 1 year old pekegnese and I'm having a pretty bad roach problem in my home. I don't know what to do because I'm scared to exterminate because my dog always picks the roaches up with his mouth and plays with them and sometimes he has eaten them. So I'm convinced if I poison the roaches my dog will be poisoned also. Even the products that say are safe I'm hesitant. I love my dog very much but I can't live like this anymore.

Hi Richard! You are right, you cannot live like this. The best thing to do is call an exterminator to come and kill them. Take Dollar out of the house when it's being done, and the exterminator will let you know when it's safe to come back home. The cockroaches should all be killed, and it will be safe for him to be in the home. I hope this helps!
