My dog's snout is swollen after playing outside. Is it an insect bite?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 31 lbs

I have a four month old pitbull mix. We were just playing outside, and about ten minutes after I brought him back inside, I noticed his snout was bigger on one side. A lump suddenly appeared on his snout, by his nose. I felt it and it’s quite hard but he doesn’t seem to be in pain. I thought it might be an insect bite.

You are right, it could be an insect bite. If it's daytime where you are, I would take Shiloh into a vet now. If it's nighttime, you can wait until the morning, but rush him into an ER vet if his face starts swelling more, he gets hives, or have trouble breathing. I hope this helps!
