How to successfully raise orphan kittens and keep them healthy?

Ever since I was a kid,I tried rescuing a lot of orphan kittens but then they end up being dead. Since then,I've been afraid to take care of cats. Can you give me some advice on how to take care of kittens without getting them killed?
