Can I give my car-sick dog Dramamine before heartworm treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 42 lbs

My dog is supposed to get a heart worm treatment in a few days but she also has car sickness. So an hour before we go anywhere I was told to give her 25mg of Dramamine, recommended by my vet. Since we have to go in the car to go to the treatment would it be okay to give her the Dramamine before the treatment or should I not give her anything before?

I personally think it would be better to skip the medication or potentially use a different prescription medication like Cerenia since Dramamine can affect behavior. You should check in with your vet however to see what they would prefer.
