My cat was outside, now his skin pops when I pet him. What's wrong?

My cat got outside and he’s back in now but he’s all scratched up and I pet him on his head yesterday and there were little popping type noises and I think little movements. He’s been eating and drinking but has also been laying in the closet for the most part and he has a lot more eye boogers than normal I think, he’s also been keeping his eyes mostly closed or half open and I don’t know if any of this is connected but I’m worried and don’t know what I should do, but I overreact and worry a lot. Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 9.8 lbs

The crackly/bubbly texture you describe is likely due to pockets of air under the skin following puncture wounds and infection and a full health check is recommended as antibiotics are likely required, especially as he is weak and hiding and most likely has a fever
