Is my female cockatoo panting and shuddering from sexual stimulation?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Cockatoo | Female | 5 years and 1 month old

My female umbrella cockatoo loves to cuddle, and sometimes she starts to pant and shudder, even though I am only scratching her neck while I hold her next to me. Not sure if she is getting stimulated, even though I stay clear of her lower body. What else could this behavior be?

Thanks for reaching out about Daisy. It appears that even this contact is sexually stimulating to her. This stimulation could result in other reproductive behavior, i.e. egg laying. If you have concerns, a veterinary visit is recommended. Good luck.
