My senior dog gags and heaves only when lying down. What's wrong?

My dog in the past few hours started heaving and gagging when she was lying down ! It’s not as severe as kennel cough but it only seems to happen when she lies down ! I’m just unsure if it’s just something irritaing her or a bad underlying problem. Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Female | 12 years and 4 months old

In a dog her age and breed, my first though is a cardiac issue (like heart failure). Fluids start to back up into the lungs and cause coughing/gagging especially when laying down. I suggest you get her to your vet for an exam as soon as possible. I would be worried about these symptoms.
